We recommend packaging and shipping of cells by one of two methods:
- Live Culture
Take 1-10 x 106 healthy growing viable cells and place in a 15 ml conical centrifuge tube that is then filled completely with fresh warm medium. Seal the tube with parafilm and place in a plastic zipper-closure bag. Place bag in an insulated container along with gel packs that have been warmed to 37◦C. Best results are obtained when cell viability is 80%, very little air remains in the tube and warm gel packs are used. Do NOT chill the culture and do NOT use FROZEN gel packs.
- Cryopreserved Culture
Take a vial containing 1-10 x 106 viable cells that have been cryopreserved and place in a plastic zipper-closure bag. Place bag in an insulated container along with dry ice. We recommend insulated containers with at least 3/4 inch thick walls that can hold at least 7-8 kilograms (8 pounds) of dry ice. Best results are obtained when cell viability is 80%. Be sure to include enough dry ice to last 72 hours or longer, especially for shipments that must pass through customs.
Always ship by courier or overnight express service.
Ship early in the week and allow for 1 extra day to reach us.
FAX or E-mail a copy of the Air-bill or the Air-bill number to us so that we will know to expect the shipment.
Never send “the last vial or culture”.
